SCHOOL UNIFORM

Kirkbymoorside Community Primary operates a policy of ‘school colours’. School uniform helps to establish a good standard of appearance, a sense of belonging and pride in the school. The policy is reviewed every year. The uniform is reasonably priced, available from the school and allows a certain amount of choice; alternatively school colours can be bought in local shops. We hope that all parents will support the school in clothing their children appropriately according to the list below. The policy was agreed after consultation with parents, children, staff and governors.

Our main school colours are Navy Blue, Grey, Red and White.

• Trousers / Shorts above the knee (not ¾ length)- navy blue/black/grey
• Skirt/ pinafore dress- navy blue/black/grey
• Summer Dress – School colours
• School sweatshirt / cardigan or jumper- navy blue
• Shirt or blouse- white
• Polo shirt- white or red
• Socks or tights- navy blue, grey or white
• Footwear with sensible heels
• Coats- serviceable and appropriate

Jeans, denim, football shirts, hooded tops and inappropriate clothing should not be worn.

Clothing for Physical Education
• T. shirt- white / red
• Shorts- navy / black ( suitable for physical activity)
• For Outdoor Games:
• Trainers for outdoor use
• Jogging trousers and a sweat shirt
Football shirts should not be worn for P.E. Due to the lack of space all P.E. kit should be brought to school in a small bag on a Monday. It will be sent home on Friday for washing.

SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

Kirkbymoorside Community Primary School follows the guidance set by North Yorkshire County Council, in respect to admissions of pupils into school. The Governing Body have to consider the school admission number annually. At present this is set at 30 pupils.
The County Policy states:
Every parent has a duty to ensure that every child of compulsory school age receives full-time education appropriate to his/her age, ability and aptitude.

The Authority must make arrangements so that parents may express a preference for the school in which they wish their child to be educated. Wherever possible those preferences will be met, unless to do so “would prejudice the provision of efficient education or the efficient use of resources” (Education Act 1996).

Places will normally be provided for all those children who live in an area which serves that area. If parents prefer a school which is not in the normal school for the area in which they live, their preferences are considered after those of the normal area.

Where schools are over-subscribed (i.e. where the number of applications exceeds the number of places available), places will be allocated as follows:
• First, pupils with Statements of Special Educational Need naming the school concerned
• Secondly, pupils considered by the Authority to have exceptional social or medical grounds for admission.
• Third, the pupils living in the normal area of the school who express it as their first preference.
• Fourth, to pupils living within the normal area of the school who have expressed a preference for that school, but whose first preference for a school placement elsewhere has not been met, and where placement at an alternative school would prejudice the provision of efficient education or the efficient use of resources.
• Fifth, to pupils having brothers or sisters at the school in question at the beginning of the term in question.
• Sixth, to pupils from outside the normal area of the school and having the nearest available walking route (this means a route along which a child accompanied as necessary, can walk with reasonable safety to school).

Note; In the case of out of area pupils, applications will be determined by referring the criteria 5 and 6 above in order of parental preferences stated. That is all first preferences will be considered first, then second preferences.

Infant Class Sizes
From September 2001, class sizes for Key Stage 1 must not be greater than 30 pupils. The Authority will, therefore, need to take this into account when allocating places in reception/ Key Stage 1 classes.

Admission to our Nursery is based on the following Criteria.
• First, pupils with Statements of Special Educational Need.
• Second, children who are recommended by the Director of Social Services, including children in the care of the Local Authority, or by the appropriate Designated Medical Officer.
• Third, children from homes disadvantaged by poor housing conditions or overcrowding, or from a background which is prejudice to the child’s normal educational development.
• Fourth, after the priority admissions shown above have been made, admissions will then be made from the children within the normal area of the school, allocation being first upon the basis of age, oldest children first.
• Fifth, children from outside the school’s normal area whose home is nearest to school first.
